Two Louis XV Period Portraits Forming Pendants
Eighteenth-century French school, oil on canvas depicting a portrait of a man in a wig and a woman holding a rose.
The man in a wig is dressed in a brown velvet livery over a lace shirt, the collar open and his blue ribbon undone. Around his shoulders is a drape of red velvet lined with gold brocade.
The young woman, her hair held back by a blue silk ribbon, is dressed in a beige silk dress embroidered with gold thread over a shirt with fine white lace visible at the sleeves and throat. She wears a mauve velvet coat lined with richly embroidered gold brocade. She is holding a rose in her right hand.
On the back a label: Mr et Mme de Berage.
