"Giacomo Grosso (1860-1938) - Portrait Of A Young Girl"
- Oil on wood panel. - Giacomo Grosso trained from a young age at the Glaveno seminary and, thanks to a municipal scholarship, entered the Albertina Academy in Turin in 1873, where he studied under Andrea Gastaldi. He made his official debut in 1882 and completed his studies the following year. In 1884, he gained national recognition with a work inspired by Giovanni Verga's *La storia di una capinera*, thus confirming his burgeoning reputation. Over the following decades, he exhibited extensively in Italy and abroad, notably in Paris, Venice, Munich, and San Francisco, where he was recognized as one of the greatest portrait painters of his time. From 1895 onward, he regularly participated in the Venice Biennale, and in 1912, he held a major solo exhibition. From 1901, he received commissions from Argentina, and in 1910, he painted a large historical canvas for the centenary of Buenos Aires. From 1906, he taught at the Albertina Academy, influencing several generations of artists. In 1926, a major retrospective of his work was held in Milan, organized by Leonardo Bistolfi, and in 1929, he was appointed a senator of the Kingdom of Italy.
