Provenance: 2024 Private collection Aixoise2016: Public sale Blanchet et AssociésAndreï Mikhailovitch Lanskoy, eldest son of Count Mikhail Mikhailovitch Lanskoy, was born in Moscow on March 31, 1902. The Lanskoy family settled in Saint Petersburg where the father ran a bank. André attended the Corps des Pages, then continued his education in a private high school. He is fascinated by color, petrushkas, clown makeup, ... In 1917, Lanskoy is enrolled in the Petrograd Cadet School. In 1918, the Lanskoy family takes refuge in kyiv where André attends the workshop of Alexandra Exter and executes his first works (including fantastic watercolors), none of which have been preserved. Lanskoy arrives in Paris in 1921. He takes advice from Sudeïkhine, present in Paris from 1920 to 1922. He paints from nature and meets Mikhail Larionov. First exhibition at the Galerie La Licorne in 1923, in the company of Russian artists, including Chaim Soutine. He also exhibits at the town hall of the 16th arrondissement with Larionov and Natalia Goncharova. Participates for the first time in the Salon d'Automne. Collectors Zborowsky and Snegaroff began to buy his paintings. In 1924, he participated in the Tcherez group, exhibited at the Carmine Gallery and sent 2 paintings to the Salon d'Automne. He signed a 2-year contract with the Bing Gallery. He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne from 1924. In December 1925, he exhibited 35 paintings, including the Portrait of Countess Lanskoy at the Bing Gallery. 1930-1936: Lanskoy exhibited regularly at the Russian Art Exhibition with Chagall, Larionov, Pougni, etc. His work was supported by Roger Dutilleuil and his nephew Jean Masurel. In 1938, he executed a series of figurative, semi-figurative or abstract gouaches. In February 1942, he exhibited his abstract paintings at the Berri-Raspail gallery. From May 4 to 20, 1944, he exhibited at the Jeanne Bucher gallery Gouaches and canvases by André Lanskoy; on this occasion, Nicolas de Staël discovered his work and asked to meet him; they become friends.1945-46: he participates in the exhibition Twenty Years at Jeanne Bucher with Chagall, Picasso, Braque, Léger, Max Ernst, Miró, Kandinsky, Staël, etc.In 1949, the State buys an oil painting by Lanskoy, Multitude.In 1950 he begins to take an interest in tapestry and meets Maurice Chassagne.1951: solo exhibition Works from 1925 to 1935 at the Jacques Dubourg gallery1953: Lanskoy exhibition, paintings from 1925 to 1953, Arthur Tooth & Sons gallery, London, then at the Younger European Painters exhibition, Guggenheim Museum, New York.In 1956, the Musée National d'Art Moderne buys the Large black and white camaïeu drawing.1957: Lanskoy, Early and Recent Paintings, Fine Arts Associates, New York. 1959: He began to create collages for Diary of a Madman and gouaches for Genesis. Lanskoy exhibition at the Albert Loeb Gallery in New York. He exhibited again in this gallery in 1960 and 1962. 1960: The Guggenheim Museum in New York bought an oil painting, Lecture à voix basse (1957). 1961: Group exhibition Russian Painters of the School of Paris, at the Maison de la Pensée française, with Chagall, Sonia Delaunay, Gontcharova, Kandinsky, Larionov, Poliakoff, Pougny, Soutine, Staël and Zadkine. In 1967, the State bought an oil painting from him, Une autre source, and the Mobilier national bought a tapestry, Mouvement détourné. 1970: Lanskoy exhibited in Mulhouse Le Journal d'un fou, La Genèse, Cortège et Dédale. Carlo Signorini collaborated with Lanskoy on around fifty mosaics made in Ravenna from 1973 to 1976. On the night of August 21 to 22, 1976, André Lanskoy died in his studio on Boulevard Pereire. 2006: André Lanskoy 1902-1976, for the thirtieth anniversary of his death, Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow and Russian State Museum, Saint Petersburg.
