Artist: Georges Bareau & F Barbedienne
Sculptor: Georges Bareau and founder: F. Barbedienne, Collas mark. Important red marble inkwell surmounted by a gilt bronze sculpture. The bronze figure represents an allegory of history, a draped woman holding a scroll. It rests on a solid base of mottled red marble, reminiscent of porphyry, with deep moldings. On either side of the sculpture are two lidded containers, and at the front, a third lidded container for ink, also in gilt bronze. A pen holder is carved into the front. It rests on seven turned bronze feet. Very good condition. Late 19th century.
