The Blue Coast By Pierre Ambrogiani 1907-1985
Artist: Pierre Ambrogiani 1907-1985
Superb oil on canvas measuring 50cm x 70cm plus period carved wooden frame (circa 1950-60), signed lower left Pierre AMBROGIANI. Stamped on the back with the artist's studio mark. Pierre Ambrogiani, known as the "gourmand of colors," was a Grand Master of Provence who would have loved to paint with the colors of the sun. This internationally renowned artist was an essential figure. A leading figure among Fauvist painters, he used the paint itself, shaping his canvases like a sculptor on marble. Born in Ajaccio in 1907, his family settled in Marseille. He initially worked as a postman before turning to painting before the war. Living on the Old Port, he became a sought-after advisor to artists from around the world. Driven by a voracious creative drive, he had two spiritual mentors: Matisse for drawing and De Staël for painting. The painting I am offering is of remarkable quality. A beautiful collector's item.
