A charming small commode, also known as a "sauteuse" commode, with curved front and sides, opening with two drawers.

It is stamped under its marble top with the initials IB HEDOUIN for Jean-Baptiste HEDOUIN, as well as the JME hallmark, applied twice.

Jean-Baptiste Hedouin was a Parisian cabinetmaker, admitted as a Master on May 22, 1738. He had a workshop on Rue Traversière-Saint-Antoine. His work includes numerous commodes, display cabinets, and secretaries, often adorned with veneer or marquetry in geometric patterns. He used high-quality bronze mounts.

The frame and drawers of this commode are made of oak and are decorated with marquetry of rosewood reserves on a satinwood ground, highlighted with boxwood stringing. The molded marble top, with its corbelled edge, follows the curve of the front and sides.

Finely chased and gilded bronze mounts adorn the drawers and the base, as well as the pinched front uprights topped with corner mounts and the feet with their hoof-shaped feet.

Adding to its charm and elegance, its small size (H. 84 cm x W. 59 cm x D. 39 cm) makes it a delightful piece for a parlor.
