A large serving tray, known as "Papier Mâché," made of black lacquered, polychrome, and gilt-decorated papier-mâché, decorated in a Japanese style.
It depicts courtiers of a dignitary enjoying themselves in their garden.
The details are numerous and very fine.
It measures 70 cm x 56 cm.
In good used condition, with minor signs of age, scratches, and a dent in one corner at the top left, but no breakage.
Given the popularity of Japonisme in France during this period, this piece dates from the second half of the 19th century and is in the Napoleon III style, made in France at the workshops of Pont-à-Mousson (see the Papier Mâché Museum in the same town).
