Vittoria Mazzotti – Lustre-glazed Vase, Albisola, Ca. 1940–1950
Vittoria Mazzotti – Lustre-glazed vase, Albisola, ca. 1940–1950
An elegant glazed ceramic vase decorated with a lustre finish, signed by Vittoria Mazzotti and made in Albisola, a center of excellence for 20th-century Italian ceramic production.
The piece stands out for its slender and harmonious silhouette: a wide, rounded base tapers gradually into a long, tapered neck, culminating in a slightly flared rim. The simple yet refined form fully highlights the extraordinary effect of the surface.
The lustre decoration features a vibrant, iridescent color palette, with metallic reflections ranging from the warm tones of copper and gold to deeper, iridescent shades of green, blue, and brown. The texture, almost “flamed” or dotted on the lower part, creates a dynamic and textural effect, while the upper part appears more fluid and nuanced, suggesting an upward movement.
The daughter of Giuseppe Mazzotti and sister of Tullio Mazzotti, Vittoria Mazzotti belongs to one of the most important ceramic dynasties in Liguria, contributing her personal sensibility to the development of Albisola’s artistic language in the post-World War II era.
