Neoclassical, Grand Tour, Berlin Cast Iron Griffin Casket In The Style Of Schinkel, 19th Century
Artist: D’après Karl Friedrich Schinkel
19th-century blackened iron casket with neoclassical decoration in low relief featuring griffins, torches, palmettes, and scrolls. Lion's paw feet, acorn-shaped handle.
The fine detail is made possible by the quality of the molding sand used in Prussia at the time. The design is directly inspired by the ornament collections of Karl Friedrich Schinkel. In the 1820s and 1830s, owning Berlin cast iron displayed one's patriotism after the Napoleonic Wars.
Beautiful original patina, but with a small chip in one corner, almost invisible when the lid is in place, which does not detract from the structure or the overall aesthetic. There is also slight play in the lid handle. Two initials under the lid: EW. Height: 17.5 cm,
Length: 18 cm,
Depth: 11.5 cm.
Shipping costs extra.
