Terracotta Sculpture, Patinated Brown, Depicting Cupid, 19th Century
A large terracotta sculpture with a beautiful brownish patina depicting Cupid (also known as Eros in Greek mythology). He is recognizable by his characteristic wings, his bow (from which he shoots arrows that inspire love), and his youthful, adolescent body, typical of classical representations. Unlike later versions where Cupid is a chubby baby, this sculpture adopts a classical/neoclassical style, representing him as a slender young man, inspired by ancient art. The pose is dynamic, with a movement of the body and drapery reminiscent of Renaissance or 19th-century sculptures.
