Jean Cocteau - Original Signed Drawing, Collective Signature With Jean Marais And Jean Genet, 1847
Artist: Jean Cocteau, Jean Marais, Jean Genet
Jean Cocteau - Original drawing signed in violet ink, enriched with the autograph signatures of Jean Genet, Jean Marais, Yvonne de Bray, and Gaston Criel. [Paris], n.d. [C. 1947], 1 p. quarto - 23 x 20 cm. On typical white bistro tablecloth paper (with its usual micro-bubbles), mounted on thin, sturdy cardboard. Certificate of authenticity.
Black wooden frame (included) with mat: 32 x 35 cm (anti-reflective and UV-resistant). Certificate of authenticity, Jean Cocteau expert.
The cabaret Le Bœuf sur le Toit, located at 41 bis rue de Colisée from 1941, revived the famous "Literary Tuesdays" after the Liberation. These evenings were organized by Gaston Criel, then Jean Cocteau's secretary. Yvonne de Bray was one of Cocteau's favorite actresses (she starred in *Les Parents terribles*). She returned to the forefront of the stage with him starting in 1948. It was Cocteau who "discovered" Jean Genet and saved him from life imprisonment in 1943; he frequented Cocteau's circle at Le Bœuf sur le Toit in the late 1940s. "A marvelous gathering of signatures, immensely charming on this tablecloth paper and bearing the rare signature of Jean Genet.
" A souvenir of the literary Tuesdays at Le Bœuf sur le Toit. Jean Cocteau,
Jean Marais, Jean Genet, Yvonne de Bray, Gaston Criel "
