Small Marquetry Commode, Louis XV Style – Early 20th Century
This small marquetry commode, crafted from rosewood and mahogany, exquisitely embodies the spirit of the Louis XV style. Its undulating front and sides lend it a supple and graceful silhouette, while the butterfly-wing veneer creates a warm interplay of symmetry that highlights the richness of the woods. At the center, delicate marquetry depicts a basket from which large flowers in light and stained wood emerge, adding a poetic and luminous touch to the whole. The two large drawers are adorned with foliate bronze handles, finely sculpted into scrolling foliage, which underscore the refinement of the piece. The chased bronze keyhole escutcheon, complete with its key, enhances this decorative ensemble, and the lock is fully functional. The cabriole legs and uprights are embellished with large bronze mounts and terminate in gilt sabots forming volutes. The whole is crowned with a superb Brocatelle violet marble slab, luminous and naturally veined. Its design harmoniously follows the curves of the piece, and a delicate groove highlights its edge, adding a final touch of sophistication. This chest of drawers, both decorative and functional, offers timeless charm and remarkable craftsmanship. It will easily find its place in a classic or contemporary interior, where it will bring warmth, character, and distinction. ********Period: Early 20th Century.
