A late 18th-century pocket watch, typical of the London school of watchmaking. Made by Potter in London (active between 1770 and 1800). Painted enamel dial with a hunting scene. Tortoiseshell outer case inlaid with a silver stag. Solid silver watch case with the hallmark PL for Peter Litherland. Watch papers inside the case indicate that this watch was serviced by James Bannister around 1810. Verge escapement movement, gilt mainplate, and regulator. Diameter including the double case: 65 mm.
