Spelter Sculpture By Auguste Moreau
A superb spelter sculpture, depicting a young man in a theatrical and expressive pose, entitled "En Vedette" (In the Spotlight), by the French sculptor Auguste Moreau. The figure, with its finely modeled musculature, is shown in motion, gazing into the distance with his hand on his forehead, in a staged attitude suggesting observation. This hunter, draped in what appears to be an animal skin in the antique style, leans on his bow. At his feet, a finely sculpted water bird (heron type) with a nuanced patina and golden highlights enriches the composition and adds a naturalistic touch characteristic of the period. The whole rests on a circular base with its original cartouche bearing the title.
