Pair Of Bohemian Crystal Drums For The Russian Market – Gold And Silver Decoration – Circa 1860
Artist: Bohème Pour Le Marché Russe
Pair of Ruby and Gold Crystal Cornucopias – Russian Market – 19th Century Description: Technical Achievement: Pair of cornucopias in solid crystal. Monolithic structure where the body and the "C" shaped handle are drawn in a single, free-flowing motion. Gem Effect: Reverse lining work with a ruby crystal in gold on the inside, covered with a thick, colorless crystal on the outside. The cut with wide, flat ribs acts like a lens, giving the piece the chromatic depth of a precious stone. Architectural Design: Deliberately off-center design of the foot to energize the line of the rhyton. This break in axis is emphasized by full gilding in fine gold at the top of the foot. Slavic Decoration: Rich two-tone ornamentation in fine gold and oxidized silver (imitation niello) depicting three-lobed ivy scrolls in relief (High Enamel). This aesthetic repertoire confirms a prestigious commission for the Russian imperial market. Exquisite Craftsmanship: The reverse of the foot reveals a highly intricate carved rosette, alternating fine fluting and diamond-point motifs. • Origin: Bohemia (Moser or Harrach). • Period: Circa 1870-1880. • Condition: Very good condition. Authentic wear to the gilding on the handles.
