Game Warden's Drum
This drum has a cylindrical body and two stretched heads at its ends. Its body is made of wood painted black with copper fittings. It features a set of hemp ropes placed all around the drum for support, with ropes passing through circular holes on the rim of the wooden body and copper fasteners along the body. It also has leather straps with metal buckles for wearing around the body. It has retained its two wooden drumsticks with copper tips. Rare instruments for sale, they are generally kept in municipal museums. In the past, in many towns and villages, the rural constable or a municipal officer performed the duties of town drummer or town crier. He would travel around the village, stopping at certain locations, to announce important news to the population, to the sound of the drum or trumpet: town council meetings, decrees, water cuts, the opening of the hunting season, and many other miscellaneous announcements.
