Equestrian Bronze - Thoroughbred Horse - Ibrahim - Pierre Jules Leads
A bronze with a brown patina depicting the famous Arabian horse “Ibrahim,” an emblematic work by the animal sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne. This model, presented at the Salon of 1843, is one of the artist's first major equestrian subjects and one of his greatest successes. It represents an Arabian stallion of Egyptian origin, finely observed and rendered with great anatomical realism. The example offered here corresponds to model no. 2, produced in several sizes by the Mêne workshop in the 19th century, testifying to the enthusiasm for this subject. The horse is depicted standing, in a noble and calm pose, resting on a naturalistic base. The casting and chasing are of fine quality, with precise rendering of the muscle masses and details (mane, veins, limbs). Signed “PJ MÊNE” on the base. Inscription “IBRAHIM” on the front. Period: 19th century. Workshop: early edition cast, Mêne workshop. Height: 19 cm. Width: 23 cm.
