Antiveduto Grammatica or della Grammatica or Gramatica (1571 – 1626).
Originally from Siena or Rome by his family; Antiveduto was so named by his father, who is said to have foreseen his birth during a journey between Siena and Rome (Antiveduto = "foreseen").
After training in the workshop of Domenico Angelini (of Perugia), he went to Rome in 1578 with his father.
There, he worked as a portrait painter of famous figures and established his own workshop near the church of San Giacomo in Augusta around 1591. In 1593, he was admitted to the Accademia di San Luca.
His patrons were Cardinal Francesco Maria Bourbon del Monte and Marquis Vincenzo Giustiniani.
He is known for having taken in a young painter, Michelangelo Merisi (not yet Caravaggio), in 1593.
He entrusted him with the task of making copies of devotional works for less affluent patrons before he began producing his own works independently.
He was appointed Principe de la Pontifica Insigne Accadelia di Belle Arti et Letteratura del Virtuosi al Pantheon in 1624.
