19th-century bronze sculpture of a seated naturalist in a dressing gown, holding a seashell in his left hand, his right arm resting on a column covered in foliage. Very likely by Buffon (younger), 1707-1788. On a black marble base. Height of the bronze: 25 cm; total height with the base: 29 cm. Condition: slight wear to the patina (the bronze is visible on the raised areas) and two small chips on the marble base.
