A lacquered and gilded wooden Buddha figure from Myanmar (Burma). The historical Buddha Shakyamuni sits in padmasana on a double throne adorned with stylized lotus petals. The Awakened One calls upon the earth to bear witness to his enlightenment and thus his victory over Mara. Early Konbaung period (1752-1885), sometimes called the Alaungpaya dynasty.
