Marble And Micromosaic Paperweight, Vatican Workshop, XIXth Century
In the classical tradition and Renaissance style, this black marble paperweight is inlaid with a micromosaic depicting St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. This exquisitely crafted piece was created in the mosaic workshop of the Reverenda Fabbrica San Pietro in Vaticano (St. Peter's Workshop), heir to the institution of the same name established in the 16th century and the mosaic workshop founded in 1578.
This object, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, is in very good condition.
