Oil On Panel, Cows Drinking, By Jean-baptiste Berré, 1830
Artist: Jean-baptiste Berré
The work is presented unrestored. Note the losses to the frame, signs of wear and rubbing in places on the paint; we also note that the panel is slightly veiled. Jean-Baptiste Berré (1777-1839) was a Flemish painter and sculptor. Initially a landscape and still-life painter, he settled in Paris in 1808, where he became the official animal painter of the Jardin du Roi (Royal Garden). Berré devoted himself primarily to animal painting after his move to Paris. His work, consisting of farm animals and big cats studied from life at the Jardin des Plantes (Botanical Garden), was collected by wealthy patrons throughout Europe who appreciated the perfection of his skill.
