Samuel Woodforde was an English painter born in 1763 in Castle Cary, Somerset. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools and exhibited many works at the Royal Academy. Thanks to the support of the banker Henry Hoare, he traveled to Italy in 1786 and studied the works of Raphael and Michelangelo in Rome. He became a member of the Royal Academy in 1807. He died in 1817 in Bologna.
