A very beautiful inkstone from China, dating from the early 20th century. This stone, carved with a beautiful dragon encircling a pearl, is in excellent condition. Note the quality of the carving and the beautiful patina, which highlights the details created by the artist. Made of black Duan stone from southern China, these stones were chosen by scholars for working ink blocks. This particular stone has clearly been used, given the central area that has been worn.
