Flat box, 29cm x 23cm, wooden core covered entirely from black leather, decorated with an incised and hot-pressed checkerboard pattern underneath, stamped lines and ironwork on sides, the flat lid with a double speckled grid. Superb applied hinges, iron mustachs on back; fleur-de-lis finials on lid, as is the hasp joining lock, which is original, as is the key, and almost fully functional. Regarding its condition: over four centuries, this beautiful object has suffered wear and tear, having been repaired at least two or three times. Inside stripped and red-washed, shows by its notches that former compartments existed, and that one side has been restored. The wooden support of lock and lock screws have also been restored. As for leather surface (red arrow), there are some scars, one large missing piece filled, a smaller one, and various chips that have been restored or filled. Dimensions: approximately 29cm x 23cm x 10cm, weight: 1.250kg. French work, circa 1580, found in Provence. Available for immediate purchase, payable by credit card or PayPal. - eclectic – We are not experts, but have been in the business for over 50 years. Hassle-free refund if you are not satisfied.
