Large 17th-century Earthenware Pharmacy Jar
A very elegant and rare baluster-shaped vase in Nevers faience, decorated in blue and manganese monochrome with two oval medallions depicting a landscape against a background of overlapping scales, above a band inscribed: Sal. Juniperi, an ancient "medicinal salt" obtained from juniper and used in traditional European medicine. The berries were traditionally used to stimulate digestion and promote urinary elimination. Late 17th century. Height: 40 cm. Lid missing, small chips to the neck, and a restored chip on the edge of the foot.
