Living Room Table, Stamped Pierre Roussel, 18th Century
Artist: Pierre Roussel ( 1723-1782 )
An elegant Louis XVI period marquetry salon table, stamped by the Parisian cabinetmaker Pierre Roussel (1723-1782), who became a master in 1745. This table has a characteristic kidney shape and rests on four tapered, slightly cabriole legs adorned with bronze sabots. The uprights are highlighted with marquetry fillets that accentuate the finesse of the structure. The apron is richly decorated with marquetry of veneered wood arranged in a chevron pattern, framed by reserves of amaranth veneer. The front features two superimposed drawers fitted with keyhole escutcheons and handles in chased bronze, and closes with a marquetry curtain in a chevron pattern. The sides feature marquetry panels with a geometric design, while the uprights are embellished with decorative gilt bronze plaques. The top has the same kidney shape and is surrounded by an openwork brass gallery, protecting a Sarrancolin Opéra marble top. The table also features a lower stretcher shelf, adorned with radiating marquetry centered by an inlaid medallion depicting a vase of flowers, a motif typical of late 18th-century decorative taste. Parisian work from the Louis XVI period, circa 1770-1780. Its top measures 57 cm x 40 cm and its height is 76 cm. ✔️ Pierre Roussel is known for his elegant furniture combining refined marquetry and discreet bronze mounts, intended for a bourgeois and aristocratic clientele.
