Ladakh Headdress Known As Perak/peyrak In Turquoises
Important Ladakh headdress known as a perak/peyrak. Composed of a long, richly padded red fabric adorned with over 330 natural turquoise stones intertwined with three reliquary beads (Gau) and a carnelian appliqué surrounded by coral beads (a species not subject to CITES). The central section is encircled by two large ear flaps of black-dyed astrakhan fur, from which hang braids of hair and wool knotted together at the bottom.
