Trône Napolitain En Bois Doré, époque Louis XIV, Italie, XVIIe Siècle
An important Neapolitan throne in gilded wood from the Louis XIV era, an extraordinary example of Southern Italian Baroque carving art.
The piece is distinguished by its monumental forms and rich decorative features: powerful volutes, leaf motifs, plant-like elements, and refined relief carvings that run throughout the entire structure, from the crown to the base. The high, dramatic backrest is embellished with a richly carved pediment, an expression of the magnificence typical of late 17th-century taste, inspired by the French model of Louis XIV, reinterpreted with the sensitivity and flair of the Neapolitan school.
The gilding, with a period-appropriate patina, enhances the sculptural details and gives the overall effect a powerful visual impact. The red velvet upholstery further enhances the regal and solemn character of the piece, creating an elegant chromatic contrast with the gold of the frame.
The sculpted base and richly contoured armrests showcase the finest craftsmanship, making this throne not just a decorative piece but a true sculptural work.
This throne is a fascinating and rare piece in the antiques market.
