Artist: Albert Lebourg (1849-1928)
Beautiful seascape by Albert LEBOURG depicting in the foreground a steamship docked in Rouen, where crew members are busy at work; In the distance, ships sail on the Seine, sending up plumes of smoke.
This painting displays a very fine Impressionist technique, notably with a sky in pastel shades of yellow, blue, and pink.

Sale of February 9, 2003, lot 152, estimated at €12,000–15,000 (see last photo – the painting was then covered with an old varnish, which was removed in 2026)
BIOGRAPHY:
After studying at the School of Fine Arts in Rome, he taught drawing in Algiers from 1872 to 1877.
He exhibited at the Salon of 1878. At the fourth Impressionist exhibition in 1879, he presented ten paintings and ten charcoal drawings inspired by Algeria and Normandy, including The Admiralty in Algiers.
He exhibited again with the Impressionists in 1880. He did not reappear at the Salon. than in 1886 with Snow in Auvergne.
Afflicted with paralysis, Lebourg ceased painting in 1925.
Winter landscapes and waterside scenes were this artist's favorites.
He was a member of the Academy of Sciences, Fine Arts and Letters of Rouen.
He was decorated Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1903 and then Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1924.
Highly sought after by collectors and galleries worldwide, Lebourg's work is featured in numerous museums (Musée d'Orsay, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen, Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, etc.)
