Pair Of Model 675 Armchairs By Robin And Lucienne Day, Airborne, France, 1950s
Artist: Robin Day
Pair of Model 675 armchairs designed in the 1950s by Robin and Lucienne Day and produced by Airborne in France. Each armchair rests on a black lacquered tubular metal frame forming a slender, elegant base. The backrest, made of molded wood and curved plywood, is the main element of the design. Its wide, slightly enveloping shape provides back support while creating a fluid and structured line. The seat is padded with foam and upholstered in red imitation leather. The seat height is 46 cm. The contrast between the visual lightness of the metal base, the sculptural presence of the molded wood backrest, and the solid surface of the seat reflects the modernist aesthetic developed by Robin and Lucienne Day in the 1950s. Model 675 embodies this pursuit of rational, accessible, and formally assertive furniture. Manufacturer: Airborne, France.
