Holy Face Of Christ With Authentic 1849
HOLY FACE OF CHRIST, JANUARY 6, 1849, EPIPHANY DAY. The relic of the face of Christ was displayed in the Basilica of St. Peter in Rome. The veil being very damaged, the features of Christ's face were no longer truly distinguishable. The miracle that day was that the veil, once again, became very clear, and the facial features became very distinct. As those present did not possess photographic equipment at the time, an engraver drew the facial features appearing in relief. Reproductions were approved by the religious authorities and validated with the aid of authentic copies, as in the engraving shown here. Mr. Dupont, present that day, obtained a copy.
