Marcel Cockx, 1930-2007, Belgian Neo-Expressionist painter. Trained at the Leuven Academy under Jan Cobbaert, where he himself taught from 1956 to 1986. He favored landscapes, seascapes, interiors, figures, and flowers, but also drew inspiration from rural life, farms, clowns, the circus, and the world of childhood. Influenced by Permeke, he evolved from a dark expressionism to a clear and robust chromatic expressionism. His work is in the Louvain Museum.
