Portrait Of A Young Woman, Pastel And Gouache

This delicate portrait depicts a young woman elegantly dressed in a pale blue gown with puffed sleeves, characteristic of the romantic fashion of the 1830s. She wears a floral embroidered scarf tied around her neck, adding a touch of color to the ensemble. The face is rendered with great softness, typical of pastel work, while certain details—notably the fabrics and accessories—are subtly enhanced with gouache to accentuate the richness of the textures.
The pastel and gouache is signed lower left by Léon Noël, a draftsman, painter, and primarily lithographer, born in Paris in 1807 and died in the same city in 1884.
A later inscription on the back reads "the artist's sister-in-law."
