Biography: Ferdinand de Prins was born in Brecht, Belgium, in 1859. He was a Belgian painter known for landscapes, harbor scenes, pastoral views, and animals. Demonstrating notable artistic talent at an early age, he was admitted at just thirteen to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, where he began his studies in decorative arts and gained a solid foundation in drawing and composition.

De Prins developed into a refined painter whose work reflects a deep sensitivity to atmosphere, light, and the quiet rhythms of rural life. Meadows with grazing cattle, tranquil waterways, and softly lit village surroundings form recurring themes in his oeuvre.

Active in the Antwerp region, including Borgerhout, Deurne, and Kontich, he drew inspiration from the Flemish countryside, capturing its serene character with harmonious compositions and careful attention to detail. His paintings reveal a disciplined technique combined with a warm and naturalistic approach.

Ferdinand de Prins’ works are appreciated for their craftsmanship, decorative appeal, and evocative portrayal of 19th-century rural Belgium. He remained active until his death in 1908, leaving behind a body of work that reflects his enduring devotion to the beauty of nature.
