The carvings, decorated with flowers and scrolls, are typical of BURGAT.
Stamped CL BURGAT (inside the back rail).
The upholstery is in cut blue velvet, clean and in good condition.
H: 95 cm W: 66 cm D: 55 cm.
Claude Louis BURGAT (1717–1782), a Parisian cabinetmaker, became a Master in 1744.
This craftsman dedicated himself to the manufacture of chair frames.
He produced some very graceful pieces and is represented in the State collections by two dissimilar armchairs, finely crafted with floral and scroll decoration.
The first still recalls the taste of the Regency, while the second, of a more capricious style, is linked to the full flowering of Louis XV art. Burgat chairs are part of the royal furniture of Sweden at the Stockholm palace.
