Large Provençal Radassier Three-seater Straw-coated Chair – 18th Century – Louis XVI
A large and rare three-seater Provençal chaise longue, made of green-painted wood retaining its original patina and color, dating from the 18th century in the Louis XV style. This model features an elegant three-slatted, gendarme-hat-shaped back, characteristic of Provençal furniture of this period. The lines are supple and balanced, typical of the Louis XV style. The base consists of turned and fluted spindle legs, connected by stretchers ensuring the overall stability. The gently curved armrests naturally extend the structure. The seat is caned, with the original caning preserved, attesting to the piece's authenticity. The seat border and cushions are upholstered in a 19th-century Alsatian quilted cover, a traditional textile with paisley patterns and warm colors. This upholstery adds a decorative touch while respecting the spirit of southern homes. This type of bench was designed for Provençal interiors or covered galleries, offering comfortable and generous seating. Today, it makes a beautiful decorative element for a characterful house, a bastide, a veranda, or a country interior.
