Antique Chinese Porcelain Snuff Bottle Famille Rose Relief Figures, Qing Dynasty C19th

Antique Chinese porcelain snuff bottle decorated in famille rose enamels with numerous applied figures in relief.

The body of the bottle is finely moulded with a lively continuous scene depicting a noble lady surrounded by many children in a garden landscape with palm trees and architectural elements. This type of subject belongs to a traditional Chinese auspicious theme symbolising prosperity and the wish for many sons and blessings.

The figures are individually modelled and carefully painted in bright famille rose enamels, creating an animated composition that wraps around the entire body of the bottle.

The base bears an iron red seal mark reading Qianlong Nian Zhi (Made during the reign of Qianlong). Such marks were frequently used honorifically on later porcelain and do not indicate the actual date of manufacture.
