Ancient Neo-romanesque Carved Stone Bas-relief From The Early Religious Period
An important bas-relief in carved limestone depicting a bearded male figure, shown standing facing forward, wearing a long pleated robe. The figure is set within an architectural niche composed of lateral columns surmounted by sculpted capitals and an arch richly decorated with scrolls and interlacing patterns. The architectural decoration displays remarkable ornamentation: historiated or foliate capitals, sculpted bands with stylized plant motifs, and an arcade adorned with openwork designs reminiscent of Romanesque ornamentation. The composition evokes the sculpted elements of church or cloister portals. It boasts fine quality carving and rich sculpted decoration. In an aged state with wear, minor losses, and visible damage, consistent with the architectural nature of the piece. A decorative element of Neo-Romanesque character, probably a fragment of architecture or a decorative sculpture inspired by Romanesque models.
