Louis XVI Commode With Italian Marquetry
A Louis XVI period commode from northern Italy, specifically the Lombardy region. It features marquetry of precious woods: olive, rosewood, and walnut. The commode has three drawers, the two lower ones projecting. The decoration includes stringing, scrolling foliage, acanthus leaves, pearls, rosettes, and urns. The key bears the coat of arms of the noble family that owned the commode. I have been unable to identify which family this coat of arms belonged to. The piece has been restored by a professional cabinetmaker.
