Little Girl with a Kitten, After Jean-Baptiste Perronneau. A delightful 19th-century oval miniature, presented in an elegant silver frame adorned with marcasites, the back in tortoiseshell with a mother-of-pearl fleur-de-lis inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The mount is surmounted by a Louis XVI-style ribbon, also set with marcasites. The miniature (after Jean-Baptiste Perronneau) features eight fleurs-de-lis on the reverse, and the whole is fitted with a hanging ring (ready to wear/hang). A beautiful display piece and sentimental jewel, typical of the 19th-century historicist taste for miniatures "in the style of…". The silver mount with marcasites elegantly frames the scene, while the Louis XVI ribbon adds a touch of neoclassical refinement. The whole combines the intimate charm of the miniature with the preciousness of a jewelry setting. In the tradition of collectible miniatures and portraits "after" the masters so prized in the 19th century, often inspired by 18th-century artists (Perronneau, Greuze, Vigée Le Brun, etc.), mounted as jewelry or pendant frames.
