André FERTRÉ (1912-1983) was an artist from the Sarthe region, born in Sillé-le-Guillaume. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts, Fertré developed a highly recognizable style, where rigorous composition meets poetic sensibility. He is a very interesting painter because he had a dual career: a life as a teacher and a prolific artistic output, marked by a highly structured, almost graphic style. His work is characterized by a solid construction of forms and a skillful use of color to create depth. Whether he paints landscapes of his native region, genre scenes or more stylized compositions, we always find that clarity and quiet strength that are the artist's signature.
