Portrait Of A Breton Woman By Jacques Simon
Oil on panel, circa 1900, depicting the portrait of a Breton woman in prayer. The painting is signed in the lower right corner, the signature difficult to decipher, but it appears to be by the painter Jacques Simon. The trace of the signature, as well as the subject matter, correspond to the artist. Jacques Simon (1885-1965): He studied under William Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier at the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He won the Brizard Prize in 1903, the Abd-el-Tif Prize in 1908, and the Louis Dumoulin Prize. He exhibited at the Salon Colonial des Artistes Français. Jacques Simon became friends with Léon Cauvy and Léon Carré, and became a teacher for the City of Paris. He painted Kabylia with a biblical aspect, influenced by Albert Marquet. He became a member of the Société des Artistes Orientalistes. Good overall condition, some wear to note. Dimensions: 33 x 24 cm
