Round copper box with an incised decoration depicting a bird perched on a flowering plum branch; below, a large peony, a symbol of longevity, blooms. This motif is found on 16th-century Chinese lacquerware, porcelain, and cloisonné. Beautiful antique patina, leather-colored. Traces of silver plating are present, indicating the box was likely silver-plated in Europe during the 19th century. An incised mark of four Chinese characters is visible underneath. China, 19th century or earlier. Signs of handling wear. Diameter: 9 cm. Height: 4 cm.
