Pair Of Louis XIII Wrought Iron Andirons, 17th Century
Pair of large, superb quality wrought iron andirons from the Louis XIII period. The log holder is very thick and sturdy. The front base is decorated with a chevron pattern, forged by hand. They have three spits of varying heights at the front and one at the back. The heads are slightly different, as at the time one would have represented a man and the other a woman. Superb forging work. Everything is riveted and hand-forged. These andirons were probably made to order for a fortified house fireplace, given their large size: height: 79.8 cm and height: 82.1 cm; length: 65 cm; width: 23.5 cm
