An elegant rectangular paperweight in Carrara marble, adorned in its center with a remarkable marquetry panel of polychrome marbles.

The geometric composition, punctuated by alternating lozenges carved from different marbles (griotte, Siena yellow, antique green, breccia, veined black, etc.), testifies to high-quality lapidary craftsmanship. The chromatic richness and diversity of the natural veins create a vibrant decoration, typical of the historicist taste of the late 19th century.

A circular bronze cabochon highlights the center of the composition and allows for easy handling.

The finely polished white Carrara marble frames this marquetry with sobriety and elegance, highlighting the inlay work.

This type of object fits perfectly within the tradition of Grand Tour souvenirs, highly prized by cultured travelers exploring Italy and fascinated by Antiquity and the decorative arts inspired by antique models. It will particularly appeal to collectors with an appreciation for archaeological artifacts and Italian decorative arts, as well as those passionate about the Neoclassical period.

Late 19th century.

In excellent condition, with a consistent antique patina.
