Claude Viallat (born In 1936)
Artist: Claude Viallat
Acrylic on orange tarpaulin by Claude Viallat (Born in 1936). Titled "369/1999" and dated 1999. The bright orange tarpaulin displays Claude Viallat's signature blue pattern (a solid, irregular, and slanted rectangle). Claude Viallat studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier from 1955 to 1959, then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1962-63. In 1966, he adopted a print-based process, which positioned him within a radical critique of lyrical and geometric abstraction (in the so-called All-over technique). A neutral form, neither natural nor geometric, is repeated on a loose canvas, without a stretcher, thus determining the composition of the work. In 1970, he was a founding member of the Supports/Surfaces group. Dimensions: 122 x 110 cm. Certificate of authenticity from the artist's studio. The artwork is presented attached with clips.
