Kantharus Cup After The Antique In Patinated Bronze, Grand Tour, Naples, 19th Century.
A beautiful patinated bronze footed cup, crafted in the antique style. The "kantharos" shape features two side handles and is decorated with two Bacchus-headed masks surrounded by a frieze of vine leaves. In Greco-Roman antiquity, the kantharos was used for drinking wine mixed with water during ceremonies dedicated to the god Bacchus (or Dionysus). It is a classic piece of ceremonial tableware for both the Greeks and Romans. The casting is of very high quality, with fine details and a superb verdigris patina, also known as "excavation patina." This work is characteristic of Neapolitan foundry workshops and dates from the second half of the 19th century. It is in very good overall condition. Note: Shipping within France is possible via Colissimo with tracking and signature confirmation. Other destinations are available upon request.
