Superb and Rare Collectible Gilt Brass Needle Case made by the prestigious English manufacturer W. AVERY & SON in REDDITCH/19th Century/Victorian Period 1871.
This naturalist model depicting a butterfly is an emblematic piece of Victorian craftsmanship.
This "Butterfly" model was registered and patented on August 4, 1871 (historical register included with the sale).
Signature: The complete original marking is legible under the wings: "W. AVERY & SON REDDITCH," where there are four delicately concealed pockets, each perfectly sized for a packet of sewing needles.
In perfect condition.
Original patina (easy to clean if needed). Note: the original antennae are missing, but this does not detract from the charm of this unique object.
