Makers history:
The Brom family was a renowned firm of goldsmiths and silversmiths based in Utrecht, Netherlands, specializing in high-quality, often Neo-Gothic, ecclesiastical metalwork. Active from the 19th through the 20th century, they were a cornerstone of the Guild of St. Bernulphus.
Key members and details include:
- Gerard Brom (1831–1882): A foundational silversmith.
- Jan Hendrik Brom (1860–1915): A prominent silversmith known for creating detailed, silver-gilt items such as monstrances (1876, 1898).
- Jan Eloy and Leo Brom: Continued the firm's legacy into the mid-20th century, notably designing the coat of arms for Radboud University in 1923 and creating liturgical art, such as a 1949 monstrance
